Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 7, 2026
Ghost Mode is a focus app built to reduce distractions. We design for privacy first:
core focus tools work on your device. Some optional and background features sync limited
data through Google Firebase so they can work across installs.
Our commitment
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show ads and do not use advertising SDKs.
We do not read or store the text of your messages. Notification silencing uses notification
access only to dismiss alerts from apps you selected — message bodies are not saved.
What we do not collect
Ghost Mode does not require an email or password account for core focus features. We do not
collect contacts, payment cards, or message content. The app does not use Firebase Analytics,
Crashlytics, or AdMob in the current build.
If you use Focus Buddy, you may choose a display name that is shared with members of your room.
Permissions we use
-
Notification access — Dismiss notifications from selected apps during a
focus session. Message content is not stored.
-
Usage access — Detect when a blocked app is opened, and compute on-device
focus aggregates (for example unlocks, app switches, and screen-time minutes).
-
Display over other apps — Show the focus blocker screen when launch
blocking is enabled. Ghost Mode does not take screenshots of your screen.
-
Do Not Disturb / notification policy — Optionally silence interruptions
during focus when you allow it.
-
Notifications — Streak reminders, session alerts, Focus Buddy nudges, and
ambient playback status.
-
Exact alarms & boot completed — End focus sessions on time and
re-arm reminders after reboot.
-
Foreground service (media) — Keep ambient sounds playing with a visible
media notification.
-
Optional location, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, or calendar — Only if you create Auto
Focus triggers that need them. You can revoke these in system settings.
Data on your device
Session history, streaks, preferences, blocked and silenced apps, Hard Mode stats, Ghost Radar
history, Auto Focus routines, Ambient Sounds settings, and similar focus data are stored
on-device (for example with DataStore, SharedPreferences, and Room). Clearing app data or
uninstalling removes this local information from the device.
Android backup may copy app data if device backup is enabled. Sensitive local settings can
therefore transfer with your Android backup unless you clear app data or disable backup for
the app.
Cloud services (Google Firebase)
When Firebase is configured for the build, Ghost Mode may use Google Firebase Auth
(anonymous ID), Cloud Firestore, and Firebase Cloud Messaging. Processor: Google LLC
(Firebase / Google Play services).
The following may sync automatically in the background (you do not need to open Focus Buddy
for these to run):
-
Anonymous account ID & FCM token — So cloud features and push
delivery can work.
-
Ghost Radar aggregates — Daily focus-health scores and related counters
(for example unlocks, app switches, screen-time minutes, notification dismiss counts,
session outcomes). Package names and message content are not uploaded in these aggregates.
-
Auto Focus routines — Routines you save, including trigger configuration
such as place coordinates, Wi‑Fi network name, Bluetooth identifiers, or calendar keywords,
if you configured them.
Focus Buddy (only if you join or create a room): room name/code, your chosen
display name and avatar, focus presence, and related session stats are shared with room
members. Invite or nudge messages may be delivered via FCM.
Uninstalling the app removes local data on the device. It does not automatically delete cloud
documents tied to your anonymous ID. That is disclosed here so you are not misled — you do not
need to take any action to use Ghost Mode normally.
Children’s privacy
Ghost Mode is for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not
knowingly collect personal information from children. Focus Buddy is a social feature; do not
use it to share information about children.
Your choices
No extra setup is required beyond the permissions Android asks for. Ghost Mode shows an
explanation before notification access, and this policy describes local storage and Firebase
sync.
Optional changes later: revoke permissions in Android Settings, turn off reminders, leave a
Focus Buddy room, or clear app data / uninstall for local data.
